When the times get tough...

Sometimes the times get tough. You can't find a job. Or you can find a job but it's a job that makes you feel really bad about yourself. You know those times? When you break all the yolks when you are trying to make sunny side up eggs and you cant afford any more eggs so you just have to eat them scrambled - even if it makes you gag (it totally makes Morro gag, it's actually kind of funny).

Yup. It's one of those times. When you just keep going because you have to. And you just keep believing and hoping that it'll all work out because you have to. Someday, somewhere, somehow. We'll find an new way of living... Just like in West Side Story except a totally different story.

We'll explain more at our show, 'Of Mice and Morro and Jasp'. It's opening tonight at Factory Theatre in the Studio. Hope to see you there!

What's in a job?

What do a couple clown girls have to do to get a job? Where do we belong?

Sure we got hired for a day a the Calendar Club, but we got paid in staff discount which doesn't really buy groceries. Not to mention that you have to buy something in order to get the discount so we in fact ended up with less money at the end of the day.

Sure Jasp got an interview at Hollister but she couldn't actually go because she started having an allergic reaction to all the perfumes that they have.

Sure we have a volunteer shift at NextStage (which we are super excited for) but you can only eat so many surveys before you get paper cuts in your stomach.

No one seems to take us seriously. Serious enough to give us a serious paying job at least.

Must we change ourselves? Must we change the system? The way up is not always so clear.

A New Year is here... it keeps happening

We were just informed that a new year is about to begin. Didn't this just happen? A new year and suddenly we are here again. It's like magic really. Like magical fairies are sweeping us off of our feets and flying us around though all sorts of exciting and scary adventures. In order to celebrate we wanted to recap the year (like they do on the news or in the fancy magazines or on the Yahoo! cover page). Morro wanted to make a record of what she did every day but Jasp said that that would basically be publishing her agenda which is not as interesting as Morro thinks it is so we settled on a few exciting events...

This year.... 2013.... we... (in a mixed up order)...

- Made a book.

- Threw the best book launch eva and had so many friends help and party with us.

- Remounted our show Go Bake Yourself. We got a 3N review at the Fringe. The reviewer didn’t love it. Whatever man, not everything’s for everyone, but we still got to make the magic and the funny and the love soufflé and the pie and Jian Ghomeshi loved it and wrote a quote for the cover of our book because of it.

- Had a love affair with Ottawa

- Made a play, then decided it was poo, threw it in the garbage and started again. RIP the play. (Subdevision/Magnetic North we love you).

- Got nominated for a 2013 Canadian Comedy Award for best play. But even more fun was that we got to present awards at both the Doras and at the Canadian Comedy Awards. Wahooooo!

- Had a wicked awesome time playing with our clown friends at the Clown Festival, even though Jasp was co-hosting from anger management rehab.

- We lectured on human rights at George Brown. Converted some clown haters and actually maybe made a little bit of an impact on very serious issues.

- Made the ultra hip at Aveda appreciate the Environment more. And got some sweet do’s (they made Jasp stop putting ketchup in Morro's hair so she really loved it).

- Made a Beyonce dance.. And it was beautiful.

- Moved into Factory Theatre as Clowns in Residence.  Like, THE Factory Theatre. And they make us sign in and out like everyone else who works there. Its the BESTEST!

- Survived. Basically with a lot of help from YOU! Yes you... the person reading this right now... in the moment you are reading it in. Thank you!
