Edinburgh Fringe - We Saw The Signs

Every now and then the sun comes out and warms your heart and soul and it buoys clowns up in otherwise murky waters. Yesterday that sun came out in Edinburgh. It shone bright and brought people out from every nook and cranny to enjoy the parks,  populate the streets, and share the joyous occasion.

It really did help us get through the day because Morro was feeling horrible since she woke up bleeding from the crotch, and was plagued with a terrible headache. Jasp had to drag her out to the park to eat breakfast. It helped a bit. Especially because there was a little kid picking grass (magic fairy dust) and putting it on peoples' heads.  Also, when we were there we saw a sign with a great message that reminded us of why we are here: "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure..."

Jasp had to drag Morro to the meeting we had with our new technicians, Jonni and Frank, who are  awesome and replacing Lewis (our run-away tech). It helped a bit to know that our show would be better now.

Jasp then had to drag Morro to get pastries - by 3 in the afternoon we had already had a delicious full breakfast, almond and pear cake, a chocolate and custard pastry, halloumi wraps, and a croissant that was served with the cutest jar of black current jam that ever existed. All that helped a lot - especially the jam that came with a message inside the lid: "Savour the Moment".

Morro was still feeling terrible however, so she just lied on the floor in our room crying for an hour or so.  It took some extra time to get her going and as a result we didnt have very much time to flyer for the show.  Also, our friend Ian had the day off so we were sending out wishes that word-of-mouth would get some bums in our seats. Somehow the wishes worked and we still had a great crowd for the show and they were LOTS of fun. Like the most. And Jonni and Frank rocked it in the tech booth. That also helped Morro feel better.

After the show, when we were getting more food (because we need to eat a lot) in one of the many magical fringe tents, we met a new friend. His name is Hardeep Singh Kohl and he is a famous comedian and chef. He invited us for dinner at his house on Monday and we are so totally excited. That made Morro feel a lot better because food and friends are the best.

We also got another great review from an online blog called Broadway Baby. Jasp read aloud one of her favourite lines: "They manage remain utterly in their clown character from the start, right through to the bows... "[sic]. This is interesting because we are always clowns... That's just who we are. That made Morro feel... ?

Then we read all of the comments and posts that our friends from home are leaving on our blog and Facebook and Twitter which made us both feel so loved. Thank you to everyone who has been following along and supporting us. We love your notes.

It was a really great day full of reminders and love and warmth... other than the fact that Morro was feeling like a bucket of compost worms. But nothing is ever perfect right!?

Hey M&J (and The Sir)!

Sending loads of love your way!

It’s no surprise that all of your fans, friends, family, and yes… even coincidences of the universe are responding to the sparkly magic that you make! Speaking of seeing signs, and on theme with the blog post title (We saw the signs), here’s a little music for your enjoyment - it’s a ‘Uke Saw The Sign’ playlist!

As for that reviewer who mentioned that odd thing about how you “remained utterly in character” (as if you could ever be anything other than clowns), well, he probably meant that you always have very strong characters - as in your personalities. That must be what he was talking about - sometimes Brits can be a bit confusing for us Canadians. ;)

And you’re totally right, you should always listen to your blackurrant jam. It has breakfasty wisdom. Maybe it was our morning plum spread that influenced us to turn left a few weeks ago, leading us straight to those rings…

Warm thoughts,

Storm & Shadow
